File Formats
File formats are the format in which the image is saved; different formats will determine how the image looks. Some can be better some worse. For example as you can see the left hand side of the bitmap image is dark were as the left hand side of the Gif image is brighter.

GIF
A GIF is an image format that uses colour and resoultion. It includes data compression however it is limited to 256 colours.
PNG
PNG is short for Portable Network Graphics. The PNG formatt was created as an alternative for the GIF format. PNGs are not restricted to the 256 color limitation of GIF files, support better transparency options and have better compression but do not support the multiple frames and simple animation that GIF files have.
TIFF
TIFF stands for Tagged Image File Formatt. The TIFF format can handle color depths ranging from 1-bit to 24-bit. Since the original TIFF standard was introduced, people have been making many small improvements to the format, so there are now around 50 variations of the TIFF format.
